writer, paper-tinkerer & kid detective
I am a mapmaker of the future that started to unfold when I was born. The future of oversized skyscrapers and back alley shops selling illegal drugs, body modifications, and technology. The future of cities fallen apart and struggling to rebuild. The future of dust and dirt and the smell of burnt wires still smoldering in corners. I live in a future that only halfway exists and I’m okay with it.
I’m Melissa Dominic. I write, create and investigate, all while keeping a secret day job. I’m older than I look and act younger than I am. I love tea, post-rock, book arts, world building, comics, trinkets, culture and minimalism. I obsess easily and overthink everything. I believe in things that have no end, relentless positvity, balance, and the forthcoming future dystopia. This is my life of picking things apart, of putting things back together.
brokennerves.net is my creative portfolio and blog. The name is an obscure reference to a recurring injury in my small stories. When sensations become dulled, how is experience altered? How important is touching someone’s face with the non-dominiant hand, just because the other hand can’t feel? It is all in the little things we do to feel something, to understand. brokennerves.net represents that. The blog is my collection of trinkets and life artifacts, inspirations and captured moments. The portfolio puts the idea together with others to try and make sense of the tiny lives we make for ourselves. I hope you love it. I hope it somehow makes sense.
or maybe you wanted the quick reference and facts?
